Founded in 2020, General Index is a team of commodity, pricing and technology specialists, experienced in running the most important crude oil and refined products benchmarks.
Neil has 20 years experience of executive leadership in data and research focused businesses. After starting his career at McKinsey & Company, he co-founded his own technology research business, Fletcher Research, which he sold to Forrester Research in 1999, where he had executive roles both in the UK and US. Neil then moved into energy data and was CEO of Argus Media until 2017 and most recently was CEO of FE, a provider of investment data to the wealth management industries.
Philip started his career at BP, working across their downstream businesses, predominantly in refining and trading. Post-BP, he spent 7 years working for Deloitte in their energy consulting business -- working in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Since 2010, he has specialised in energy information, initially with Energy Intelligence and subsequently with Argus Media where he was the Senior Vice President & global lead for LPG.
Daniel has a 20-year career in a variety of product and corporate leadership roles in information and data businesses. Daniel started out at Forrester Research consulting on technology trends and launching a new service to the European market. Daniel joined Argus Media in 2010, holding a variety of technology and product leadership positions. Most recently, Daniel led corporate development and focussed expansion into new sectors and services.
Diane has worked within the energy and commodity markets for the past 10 years. Diane joins General Index from Wood Mackenzie where she worked in the consulting team and led engagements for clients predominantly within the downstream sector. Her work included strategy development, cross commodity demand modelling and scenario development as well as buy side and sell side due diligence.
Adam has more than 25 years of experience in the energy and commodity markets across business development, senior leadership, and commercial consulting roles. After leading the sales, marketing, and customer support teams at S&P Global Platts during the formative years of the MOC, Adam joined Genscape as Sales and Marketing Director at the start of their European expansion -- overseeing fast growth into the European power markets and the expansion of Genscape’s oil storage and refinery data services before company’s subsequent acquisition by DMGT (and most recently Wood MacKenzie).
Katie started her career within the legal environment and then HR where she has gained over 20 years' experience working with all types of business and industry in a variety of roles. Katie supports the General Index vision and strategy with all our people related matters. Her role is varied and covers anything from delivery on our growth and expansion plans, supporting employee wellbeing and engagement and building overall team development in line with General Index needs. Katie has a global remit and is our go to person for all our regions across Asia, US, Europe and London, where she is located.
Saket started his career as an upstream analyst with risk consultancy Business Monitor International. He joined GX from oil tanker operator Navig8 Group, where he was a Senior Research Analyst, examining supply-demand fundamentals and market trends. Prior to Navig8, he led the European oil products team at Argus, with primary responsibility for the Eurobob gasoline benchmark. He has an M.Sc. in Energy, Trade, and Finance from City University’s Cass Business School.
Ginny has more than 20 years’ experience as a journalist, including roles as crime reporter, chief reporter, BBC radio reporter and editor. She freelanced for several years on national publications and lectured in journalism and media law for News Associates. After managing the editorial team for business information provider Global Data she specialised in energy, joining the LPG desk at Argus Media in 2011 and heading up the team before moving to General Index 2021.
Jonathan is a respected expert in commodities regulation with extensive experience gained in key industry roles. A corporate lawyer originally, Jonathan went on to roles at the then Financial Services Authority including supervising the ICE Futures Europe exchange before focusing on policy as the first Technical Specialist – Commodities. His work included being the instigator of IOSCO’s Principles for Oil Price Reporting Agencies and co-chairing the task force. Jonathan’s next role was for BP Supply & Trading, managing its engagement with the FCA and its EU financial regulatory affairs. Jonathan was Chair of the Commodity Markets Council Europe trade association overseeing significant growth in its membership and it achieving an influential voice with policymakers & regulators.
Aida began her career in debt capital markets in Frankfurt and São Paulo and subsequently pursued her love of languages as a business translator. She returned to finance in recent years and is a Fellow of the Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers. She joins General Index as Finance Manager after building out the finance function via a supporting role. Her role spans the General Index companies in London, Singapore and Houston, where she is the finance & payroll interface. Aida holds a B.A. Degree in Economics & German and an M.A. in Economics from National University of Ireland, Galway, and a Diploma in Spanish from the University of Buenos Aires.
James has a consulting background, with nearly 20 years experience supporting major energy and commodities sector organisations. He began his career with Logica, working to implement CTRM systems and processes. From 2010, James worked in the wholesale markets and trading practice at Baringa Partners where he specialised in market data management and data governance.
Maciek has 20 years of experience in Software Development. He started as a Junior Java Developer in Comarch, a prominent Polish software house. Then he moved to the Swiss-based company Deltavista, where he grew to become a Senior Software Engineer. After that, he worked on the Bottomline's B2B payments project. In 2017 he joined Northgravity, a General Index technology partner, where he built and led the analytics platform team. His most recent position was Application Architect at European Commission in Brussels. He holds several certifications where the most important are Java Developer, AWS Solution Architect and Elastic Engineer.
David has 10 years of experience as a commodity market specialist, working in price reporting and journalism. He spent the bulk of his career at S&P Global Platts, where he held a range of oil and agriculture market analyst roles, as well as leading the Europe & Africa clean refined oil products team between 2016 and 2019. He later joined Argus Media as an associate editor in its marine fuels team. He has a BA Hons Degree in History from Durham University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from Cardiff University.
Victoria has built her commercial and legal experience within the information and finance industry including Lexis Nexis (MLex) and Hiscox. At General Index, she has worked on developing the commercial and operational strategy as a new market entrant and now focuses on customer development for GX globally. Within commodities her background includes working on global regulatory issues and compliance at Argus Media, focussing on the EU’s benchmark regulation and application to business operations. Prior to that, she worked in corporate law at UK-US firm Mishcon de Reya.
Andrew has 10 years of experience in B2B marketing roles and holds an Honours degree in Business Management. He has vast knowledge in all elements of the marketing mix and has been instrumental in planning, executing and analysing large-scale projects and campaigns in both traditional and digital marketing arenas.
Joe has over 25 years of senior sales and leadership experience including nine years at Bloomberg and five years running institutional client teams at Refinitiv. More recently, he spent four years leading efforts to grow the European business at ClipperData (now part of Kpler), considerably adding to its client base. Across his career he has sold to every corner of Europe to established and emerging markets. In the commodities industry, Joe has built strong ties amongst the trading houses, oil majors, utilities and across the buy-side.
Matt is part of the Data Team and helps to update and streamline the processing pipelines. He is a BSc Physics graduate from the University of Birmingham and until recently, has been tutoring all levels in maths, science, and python to anyone who needed some extra help learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based in our London office, Lucy joins General Index as an Energy Analyst with a focus on European refined products. After completing a Master's degree in Geology from the University of Leeds, Lucy joined S&P Global Platts as the Gasoline Editor in 2021, assessing Northwest European, Mediterranean and West African gasoline markets.
Betty joins General Index as a Data Analyst based in our London office. After graduating from the University of Hull with a BEng in Biomedical Engineering, Betty made a pivot into tech as a Graduate Data Intern after completing a nanodegree with CodefirstGirls - a UK based company that provide coding courses for women.
Andres joins General Index as a data Analyst based in our London office. Andres holds a degree in Mathematics & Economics from the university of York, where he also worked as a research assistant for the chemistry department and later went on to work as a Decision Scientist, applying statistical methods to make recommendations based on economic forecast data, followed by taking time off to travel the world.
Agata has a Bachelors degree in Material Science with a Masters in Engineering from AGH University, and has spent her time since then analysing data for Motorola Solutions and Vesuvius. There she developed her data visualisation and dashboard creation which will be the initial focus of her work at General Index
Adrian joins General Index as a Senior Software Developer based in Krakow. He has more than a decades worth of experience in designing and developing applications in a variety of programming languages, including Java, Python, TypeScript and Swift. He also holds a number of certifications as an AWS Solution Architect, AWS Developer and Oracle Java Developer.
Eesha has 10 years of experience in various aspects of commodity markets. Prior to General Index, she led pricing for the Dubai benchmark and the full suite of Middle East/Asia crudes at S&P Global Platts. Her core expertise lies in understanding the nuances of East of Suez crude pricing and Asian trading dynamics. She also has specialist experience in enterprise risk consulting and pricing uncharted markets, having previously consulted oil majors on renewable energy and illiquid commodities.
Reza's responsibilities at General Index span crude, LPG and refined products. He has over 15 years of experience in energy pricing, starting his career with Dow Jones in London where he covered the European oil markets. In 2011 he moved to Dubai to cover oil markets in the Indian Ocean for Argus Media before switching his attention to OPEC and the upstream sector. He relocated to Singapore in 2014 where he worked on the crude markets in Asia as well as two years on Asian LPG, before moving to General Index in 2022.
Marcus has over 18 years of industry experience covering the energy, commodity and maritime markets, with nine years in senior leadership roles. He set up the Baltic Exchange’s first China office in 2013 and was appointed Managing Director for the region. He oversaw business development, strategy and partnerships, and led the organisation’s successful expansion throughout China and North Asia. In 2019, he took on the role of Chief Executive at Seamaster Shipping, where he led the transformation of the company through the utilisation of technology.
Zulfadhli is a recent graduate of Nanyang Technological University, having read Accountancy. His previous experiences include auditing and financial advisory work as part of school internships. He has also taken part in various projects, involving work in both Excel VBA and python.
Xinyao graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering from Nanyang Technological University and has been a geotechnical Engineer since graduation. She joins General Index as an Energy Analyst focusing on refinery products in the Asia market after finding her interest in commodities.
Anthony has more than 10 years experience in the energy and commodity industries across market development, analysis, and senior leadership. He joined the energy industry out of law school, where he focused on tax and energy law, and rose to manage market pricing and analysis throughout North and South America providing direction and insight across all commodity sectors. He also managed compliance for market coverage and contributed to a variety of strategic technical and operational initiatives including Argus Workspaces, global corporate policies and internal KPI.
Jeff has been chasing news and oil for 34 years. He comes to General Index from Bloomberg, where he covered fuel markets, shipping, production and logistics. He previously directed gasoline and LPGs coverage at S&P Global Platts in Houston and is leveraging a background in statistics, data and graphics, sports, breaking news and business news. Previous stops include 11 years with the Associated Press in western Pennsylvania.
Dr. Gamze Ogcu Kaya holds a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering. She worked as an Energy Trader in one of the pioneering energy companies in Turkey. After this role, she worked in research and teaching positions in Turkey and Indonesia. Gamze has many published research papers on data science and has a great enthusiasm for data.
