About GX

General Index (GX) is the commodity benchmark provider based on the most data. We produce over ~6,200 daily energy prices - in crude oil & refined products, biofuels, hydrogen, and carbon markets - which our clients (such as Exxon, Bloomberg, BP, Shell and Two Sigma) use to make critical energy & investment decisions. GX’s unique approach collates thousands of trades from 200 data partners and applies expert-designed algorithms based on detailed methodologies to calculate prices.

Backed at Series A by Chalfen Ventures and 20VC, we have an experienced team with proven leadership – as well as a rapidly growing customer and partner base. With offices in London, Krakow, Houston, and Singapore, we're growing quickly, and we're looking for an Interim Head of People to help 3 days per week while our Head of People is on maternity leave.

About the Role

We're on the hunt for a dynamic, pragmatic Interim Head of People, a true generalist who can flex from boardroom to shop floor and back again. You'll be the trusted right-hand to Leadership and Management, and a go-to advisor for people across our global team. If you love variety, thrive on ownership, and get a kick out of building relationships at every level of a business, this is your kind of role.

What You’ll Own:

Talent Acquisition

  • Own and deliver the end-to-end recruitment process across all roles, levels and disciplines.
  • Proactively source, headhunt and recruit talent via LinkedIn and other channels.
  • Pre-screen every candidate before CVs are shared with hiring managers to ensure quality and alignment.
  • Manage interviews, candidate assessment, task preparation, offer and salary negotiation, and contract creation.

People Operations

  • Oversee onboarding and integration of all new hires, to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Own Bob data integrity and ongoing HR compliance
  • End of year performance and compensation process
  • Keep the company ahead of changing employment law obligations in all jurisdictions
  • Workforce planning & headcount forecasting for FY28 in partnership with leadership including people budgets.
  • Own risk areas for People function, and sit on the risk committee

People Business Partnering

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders and department heads to influence people strategy and decision-making.
  • Drive improvements in performance, engagement, culture and team effectiveness across all departments.
  • Support managers and leaders with conversations and decision-making around pay, salary reviews, remuneration and employee benefits.
  • Support managers with capability management, coaching and difficult conversations.
  • Provide commercially focused, legally compliant HR advice to managers on all ER matters, ensuring consistency, fairness and adherence to company policy and employment law across all ER activity.

Organisational & Talent Development

  • Partner with leadership on the people implications of strategic acquisitions, including due diligence support, culture and compensation benchmarking, and integration planning for incoming teams.
  • Lead HR work streams during fundraising events, including data room preparation, and readiness reviews of employment contracts and policies for investor scrutiny.
  • Manage the end of year performance cycles end-to-end, whilst supporting managers with performance conversations.

You Offer

  • Experience leading a People function in a high-growth startup (ideally VC-backed).
  • Strong operational capability and confidence in building and improving HR processes from scratch
  • Hands-on experience with Bob (preferred) or other modern HR systems (e.g. BambooHR, Personio)
  • Understanding of UK employment law; international experience (e.g., Poland, US, Singapore) is a plus
  • A people-first, detail-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-paced, evolving environment
